IberoDocs – Scotland’s Ibero-American Documentary Film Festival- is coming back to Edinburgh to celebrate its 3rd edition. The dates: from the 4th to the 8th of May. Yes, we like spring, our favourite time of year. The venue: The Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh, as usual.
In 2014 we were a newborn festival exploring the idea of migration and trying to figure out how to fit in. In the second edition last year we compared ourselves with a toddler, exploring film through the lens of identity, and by the end we were running with joy and confidence.
Well, this year we’re rebelling. We’re crossing the line – pushing boundaries and exploring borders, as filmmakers from all the Ibero-American space do. These filmmakers are risk-takers in format and in content, and this year we celebrate them in our “Focus on First Works” strand, which is dedicated to those emerging and up-and-coming filmmakers that have had the courage to do the unexpected and were able to make true stand-out films as a result.
Also new for this year is our first Short Docs programme, including filmmakers from across Ibero-America in what will be the festival’s most experimental section. In addition we will have our dedicated Lusophone strand, featuring documentaries from Portugal and Brazil and, of course, IberoDocs Film Festival will once again have special events, opening and closing receptions, and parties.
