+ Q&A

Miguel Gonçalves Mendes

see below for details on Q&A + additional event information

José Saramago was born into a poor family in Azinhaga, Portugal. He lacked the means to study beyond the fourth grade and only began to write at the age of 60. Yet, he quickly became one of the world’s favourite Portuguese-language authors and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998. Pilar del Rio, José’s beloved wife, has a strong spirit and a firm grasp of José’s active schedule. With appearances from Gael García Bernal and Gabriel García Márquez, José and Pilar offers an intimate glimpse into the couple’s world.
