The Journey
+ Q&A with director Manuel Muñoz
Descriptive Subtitles
BSL INTERPRETER
The journey is a passage and reflection, a departure and arrival. In the selection of short films journeys cross the border between life and death, between self and others, between vibrant stories and attentive ears and between intergenerational rituals. The point of arrival is the surface of the water that in all selected shorts leaves characters with questions, doubts and a promise of different beginnings. Once confronted with the current, past, present and future merge and we, as characters, or spectators remain the anchor points, held together by the act of viewing.

Manuel Muñoz is a filmmaker based in Spain. His work as a film director to date explores a local geographic area that is familiar to him (the region of Andalusia), with special attention to the aesthetics and poetics of the landscape and the photogenic value of the human face, all along with a hybrid approach that aims to transcend the labels or conventions of genre (fiction or documentary) and privileges what we could call "cinema of presence" in front of the "cinema of representation". His first feature film EL MAR NOS MIRA DE LEJOS premiered in 2017 in BERLINALE, in the FORUM section.
